For those of you who don't know, a banh mi is a Vietnamese sandwich that usually consists of a fresh cilantro, pickled veggies and various types of meats on a crisp baguette. Ba Xuyen is known to have the best banh mi in New York City and I completely agree.
Last Saturday, I decided to stop by Ba Xuyen for a sandwich. I ordered the Number 1, the Pate Thit Nguoi. The Number 1 consists of ham, pork and pate and is the most traditional type of banh mi.
First of all, the bread is perfectly toasted and better than any bread I have had on a bahn mi. The middle is a perfect blend of meaty, pickly, herby, sweet, creamy flavors. This is the best banh mi I have ever had. It's the best. There's nothing left to say.
